RCA celebrates Eclipse Day
Rhea County Academy celebrated Eclipse Day with a watch party on the school playground. The event was coordinated by science teacher, Stephanie Wood. More than 200 students, teachers and parents participated in the festivities. Refreshments of Moon Pies, Starburst candy, Sun chips,
Sunny D and Capri Sun were served.
Wood and elementary teachers prepared students for the eclipse during a week of lessons covering causes of the eclipse, myths and folklore about eclipses and safety for viewing an eclipse. During the party, announcements over a loudspeaker by Dr. Todd Wood kept the crowd informed about what was happening with the eclipse and reminded students of what they had been taught in their classes.
Dr. Wood, RCA high school Bible teacher, expressed his astonishment, “This was my very first total solar eclipse, and it was amazing! I have not seen anything like it. It really is one of the most wonderful spectacles in all of God's creation.”
