Poclicy Updates for 05-06
The following policy changes/clarifications have been made to the Rhea County Academy Handbook for the 05-06 academic year:
- P.E. participation – All students are required to participate in P.E. unless they have a written excuse from a doctor.
- Attendance – If a student is absent for more than 20% (36 days) of the year, they will not be promoted to the next grade.
- Tardiness – 3 tardies will equal one absence.
- Field trips – All grades will have at least one field trip per quarter. The planning and organization of these field trips is the responsibility of the teachers.
- Field trip chaperones and drivers – All students, teachers, chaperones, and drivers must leave from and return to the school together.
- Progress reports – In addition to daily parent-teacher communication, mid-quarter progress reports will be issued to parents, if a student is receiving a grade of 83% or less.
- Promotion policy – The following items are the new policies governing promotion in 2nd through 8th grades. In order to be promoted a student must:
a. Pass reading, math, and language arts with at least
an 80% average
b. Pass history and science with at least a 75% average and receive a satisfactory grade in all other classes.
The following item is the new policy governing promotion in K – 1st grades. In order to be promoted:
a. Students will need to master
- Report cards/standardized test results – These will only be released to the parents/guardians of the students and not to the students themselves.
- The following information will be provided to parents of students in grades 2-8:
- The class grading scale
- A breakdown of the % of grade derived from class work, quizzes, tests, etc.
- A listing of the number of test and major projects that are up coming during each quarter.
- Band policy – Parents will have the option of having their child help with P.E. instead of participate in Band. Notification of this decision must be submitted in writing to the school.
- Homework policy clarification– Homework is restricted to Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings and is not to be more than 1 hour in length, including band practice (20 min a day, 5 days a week). This does not include assignments that were given during class and the students were given adequate time to complete but did not. This also does not include reviewing for quizzes and tests.
