Annual high school trip heads west
St. Louis, Missouri was the destination of the 32 students and adults from Rhea County Academy who traveled last week on the school’s annual high school trip.
The five-day outing included stops at the St. Louis Science Center, St. Louis Zoo, City Museum, Missouri History Museum, St. Louis Art Museum, the Gateway Arch and an afternoon at Busch Stadium watching a Cardinals’ game.
Students also enjoyed time on the Delmar Loop, an entertainment, cultural and restaurant district, which has been recognized nationally as “One of the 10 Great Streets in America”.
The annual trip has traditionally included a visit to an area college where students have heard from college administrators about college life. This year students visited Maryville University whose offerings include a degree in cyber security. Carrie Thompson, one of the RCA teachers accompanying the group reported, “The students were intrigued by such a high-tech school. They were especially interested in the collegiate eSports team!"
The curriculum of Rhea County Academy includes high school travel experiences. Locations are chosen because of the opportunities students have for visiting historical sites, seeing scientific endeavors, and enjoying cultural experiences.
Senior Lexie Snyder expressed her feelings about the value of the trip, “ Going on a high school trip with RCA is more than just a road trip, it’s educational, fun, and you’ll make memories that will last forever.”
